Whitetail Deer
Season Dates (Typical):
- Archery: October 1 - November 14 & December 1 - January 1
- Firearm: November 15-30
- Muzzleloader: December 2-11
- Late Antlerless: Varies by DMU (Deer Management Unit)
License Requirements:
- Base hunting license required
- Deer license (combination or single kill)
- Hunter orange required during firearm seasons
- Hunter Education certificate if born after 1960
How to Apply:
- Visit Michigan DNR website or licensed retailer
- Purchase base hunting license
- Select deer license type (archery, firearm, combo, etc.)
- Choose your Deer Management Unit (DMU)
- Licenses available online, by phone, or in-person
Wild Turkey
Season Dates (Typical):
- Spring Turkey: Mid-April through late May (varies by zone)
- Fall Turkey: October (limited units)
- Multiple hunt periods with different dates
License Requirements:
- Base hunting license required
- Turkey license for each bird
- Hunter orange vest required for fall season
- May purchase up to 2 spring turkey licenses
How to Apply:
- Determine which hunt period and area you prefer
- Purchase base hunting license
- Apply for turkey license through Michigan DNR
- Spring licenses available over-the-counter
- Fall licenses may require drawing in some units
Elk (Limited Draw)
Season Dates (Typical):
- General Season: Late August through early September
- Late Season: Mid-December
- Hunt dates set annually after drawing
License Requirements:
- Must be drawn through lottery system
- Base hunting license required before applying
- Hunter orange required
- Very limited tags (approximately 100-150 annually)
How to Apply:
- Application Period: June 1 - July 1 (annually)
- Must have valid Michigan base hunting license
- Submit application online or by mail
- Application fee required (non-refundable)
- Preference point system in place
- Drawing results announced late July
- Once drawn, 10-year wait before re-applying
